Marge Heching

Growing up in New York City, I had the opportunity to visit many museums and art galleries, where I encountered the works of various artists using a wide range of styles and mediums. The Fauves, the Nabis, and Japanese woodcuts remain a profound influence on me, as do the works of Toulouse Lautrec, Paul Gauguin, and Will Barnet.

Thanks in part to my career as a textile designer, I have been able to hone my talents and sharpen my sensibilities while immersed pattern, color, and texture. In this way, I have attempted to combine fine art with the particular aesthetic of textile motifs. This melding of themes is apparent in my oil paintings, pastels, and other works on paper.

My subjects include intricate still lives, cityscapes, and atmospheric landscapes, as well as the human face and form. I derive my inspirations from the natural and man-made world, and am moved by the ever-changing harmonies and contrasts of color, shape, and form that can be seen all around us. In my art, I strive to offer the viewer - as well as myself - a special place to dream, escape, and seek refuge.

I hope that my work illuminates the serenity, power, and beauty that exists all around us, and how those elements interplay to create a world where dreams lay just beneath the surface.
